Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2025

This year Global Accessibility Awareness Day falls on Thursday 15th May. It's a day to raise awareness of accessibility with lots of companies hosting events to get involved in. As with all these "XXXX Day/Week/Month" it shouldn't be an excuse just to seem to care about accessibility on social media for one day. But it's a great opportunity to get people talking about it.

The Global Accessibility Awareness Day website has a list of all the events companies are hosting. Some of this are private/internal, but there are some that can be joined by anyone, wether that be online or in person if suitable.

Even doing a little could help

In previous roles, I've used the day to share information about accessibility internally, whether that be around what we are doing regarding accessibility and how people can get involved, or signposting some resources that people may wish to look at to learn more about why it's so important.

I've also encouraged people who contribute to socials to post a little about what we do/how we can help and how we care. This can get a conversation started with a client/follower who may not be aware of accessibility and the impact excluding groups of people can have.

I'm going to have another look through the events nearer to the time, but I quite like the sound of this Intro to assistive technology webinar from WorkDay.

Take a look through the events, mark the day in your calendar, and do a little to get people talking about accessibility.
